Creating the Saugeen Sojourn

This spring we are launching our first ever overnight program, a culmination of work that has spanned the last year. From our basecamp at Cape Croker Park, the program will combine our hiking, canoeing, outdoor escape room, stargazing, and biking adventures, with input from two local Anishinaabe guides.

 Animal tracks in the snow

Winter can seem like a quiet, sleepy time of year, and for many creatures, it is. For others, though, winter is full of activity. Snow on the ground brings with it the benefit of being a canvas for those animals that traverse forest floor. On our many winter adventures, we are lucky to see some wonderful tracks that tell the stories of the comings and goings of the peninsula's diverse wildlife.

Day out at the Grotto!

Snowshoeing the Grotto is an experience like no other. Typically the day starts off with an intrepid band of travelers (you all) looking for adventure. Our route takes us around Horse Lake (where we reveal lore about the name and impart some pretty interesting interp if I do say so myself) and on to the shores of Georgian Bay - your first sight of the "big water". From there we venture on to little known Fern Cave (a guide favorite!), where you will learn interesting facts about these thousands year old sea caves and other super cool stuff. Then it's off to the Grotto using a lesser traveled (and way more exciting) route. After a lunch break and some exploration, our group of winter wanders wend their way back around Mar Lake to complete our Snowshoe the Grotto circuit!!

My favourite things about winter hiking

You won’t be surprised to hear that at EcoAdventures, we love to get on our hiking boots and head onto the trails. I’ve found that winter hiking offers some things that other seasons just can’t beat.
